The Xbox360 was the second games machine in the Xbox range and is manufactured by the software giant Microsoft. Although Microsoft announced the new machine in May 2005, it was not actually available until November in the USA/Canada and December in Europe/Japan. The short time between announcement and release gave it a definite advantage over it's competitors, the PS3 and the Wii (well short in computer industry terms, usually it is more than a year, or even years, after the initial announcement that a machine is released, Microsoft managed it in just over seven months). Also the fact that it was first launched in North America, and released in Europe at the same time as Japan gave it a further time advantage in the West (normally games machines are first released in Japan, then the USA some time later, and finally Europe - usually there are months, or sometimes a year or more between each territory's release, not only was the Xbox released in the USA/Canada first, it hit all other main territories within a month). What is more, Microsoft managed to release the machine in a total of 36 territories within a year of the initial release. That is a record that none of it's competitors have been able to equal, let alone beat.
Of course, as is almost traditional with Microsoft products, it suffered a lot of bugs and hardware problems to start with, and Microsoft had to release several improved versions to fix the fact that it was released before it was really ready (this may explain the quick lead time on release). Microsoft claim that everything is fixed now, but this is of no consolation to those who purchased an early machine and had to either buy a newer version or pay a lot of money to get their old machine fixed. If you already have a machine like this, and need it fixed, then please look at the last link on this page for a site that will help you fix your machine.
The main "killer app" in the Xbox360 is that it is owned by Microsoft. That may seem more like a disadvantage to most people, but on a purely commercial side the backing of such a large company gives it a boost equal to, or even greater than, having some great hardware/software killer app.
The other main selling points of the Xbox360 are it's extensive Internet presence and the fact that, like the Wii, it incorporates motion sensors in it's game play (except in the first, now discontinued, version - the Xbox360Core).
If you own a Xbox360 and are fed up of paying too much for the games, there is a site on the Internet where you can legally download Xbox360 games. To pay the site a visit Click Here.
